Biographical/Historical note
The first Morehouse to settle in Fairfield was Thomas in the middle 1600's. Many of his descendants stayed in the Fairfield area and became farmers, mill owners, military officers, store and ship owners. The bulk of the collection is letters to Sadie Morehouse who married John B. Wakeman. Their daughter, Sarah Wakeman Wood, willed a large amount of land to the Fairfield Historical Society in 1970. For more information on the family, see genealogy in Box I.
