Join a special walking tour to explore local sites\, trace the area’s development\, and discover the different communities who called Stratfield home. Discover the impact of the raids of New Haven\, Fairfield\, and Norwalk in 1779 and the final years of the Revolutionary War. \nBook sale & signing to follow. \nMembers: $5; Non-Members: $10. \n  \nAbout the Speaker \nJeffrey A. Denman is a retired American history and geography teacher from Brookline Public Schools in Brookline\, MA. He has written articles and books dealing with the American Revolution\, the Civil War\, World War II\, and other topics in American history. His latest book is Closing the Ring: George Washington’s War in the North\, 1778-1781. Denman is the father of nine children and twenty-two grandchildren as of this writing. An avid outdoorsman\, he has climbed several 14\,000-foot peaks in Colorado and Mt. St. Helens in Washington\, and has enjoyed canoeing on the Upper Missouri River in the footsteps of Lewis and Clark.

DESCRIPTION:On the morning of September 22\, 1776\, Nathan Hale was killed by the British for being a spy for the Continental Army. Hale was designated the Connecticut State Hero in 1985. Join Anne Marie Charland\, Museum Administrator of the Nathan Hale Homestead\, to trace the story of Nathan Hale and the family who shaped him from small town boy to a Revolutionary War hero. Discover Hale’s life growing up on a farm\, his time at Yale College\, his advocacy for women’s education\, and his fateful decision to become an intelligence officer for General Washington. \n$5 suggested donation. \n  \nAbout the Speaker \nAnne Marie Charland has been working in the fields of history and tourism for over 20 years.  Her career started in marketing and public relations for the Greater Hartford Tourism District and later the Northeast Visitors District. She joined the Connecticut Landmarks team at Nathan Hale Homestead in Coventry\, CT in 2012 and has been the museum administrator since 2017. She has also curated exhibits\, facilitated programs\, and been a consultant at museums throughout Connecticut. \n
