Fairfield’s “Old Burying Ground” Walking Tour
May 19 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm$5.00 – $10.00
When the town of Fairfield was first designed in 1639, a burying ground was laid out on Beach Road, just south of the Fairfield Museum. On this walking tour of the Old Burying Ground, learn about the sculptural designs on the tombstones and their meanings. Discover the historic beliefs about death and the value of life at the time through the stories of local families including Thaddeus and Eunice Burr, Jonathan Sturges, and Caleb Brewster, as well as many of the ground’s earliest occupants, whose graves are no longer, or perhaps, never were marked.
