History Bites: The Litchfield Law School: Guiding the New Nation

July 17 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

Paul Hicks will discuss his book, The Litchfield Law School: Guiding the New Nation. Learn why, in the early years of the Republic, over a thousand ambitious young men traveled to the small town of Litchfield to study law with Tapping Reeve – and how what they learned helped shape the new nation. Alumni of the law school went on to serve as governors,  judges, senators and congressmen; and as Vice President, including both Aaron Burr and John Calhoun. Hicks argues that the Litchfield Law School provided the most innovative and successful legal education program in the country for almost fifty years (1784-1833).

Members: Free; Non-Members: $5 suggested donation. Please bring a bagged lunch. Beverages and dessert will be provided
