SPOTLIGHT ON: Redistricting and Your Vote
October 14 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Join us for this exciting first event in the 2021-2022 Fairfield League of Women Voters five-part series, SPOTLIGHT ON: REDISTRICTING and YOUR Vote—a new, free, multi-part series about the politics of voting. The series starts with “It’s Your Vote They’re Talking About”—co-sponsored by the Fairfield Museum and History Center— on Thursday, October 14, 7pm at the Fairfield Museum. This talk focuses on the 2020 Census, redistricting rules, and looks at geography and political interest.
It happens every 10 years . . . and it’s happening now! But what is redistricting and why should you care? What does Connecticut’s 2020 Census have to do with it? What does “one person, one vote” even mean if legislators choose their voters, instead of voters choosing their legislators?
Speakers of this panel include:
David Daley: Senior Fellow, Fair Vote, and author of the top-selling Ratf**ked: The True Story Behind the Secret Plan to Steal America’s Democracy and the new book Unrigged: How Americans Are Battling Back to Save Democracy. Daley is a frequent lecturer and media source about gerrymandering, and was a former CEO and publisher of the Connecticut News Project. Daley’s work has appeared in The New Yorker, The Washington Post, The Guardian, New York Magazine, The Atlantic, the Boston Globe, and Rolling Stone, as well as CNN and NPR.
Joan Twiggs: Director and champion of the LWV-CT People Powered Map Program.
This free pubic event is led by the League of Women Voters of Fairfield and is co-sponsored with the Fairfield Museum and History Center, located at 370 Beach Road, Fairfield, CT.
