Fighting for a Cause


In the 1700s, Fairfield was a farming town that found success and wealth by trading with other major cities in both the colonies and abroad. When the conflict between Britain and the colonies came to a head in the 1770s, many in Fairfield felt they needed to stand up to Britain. Leaders in Connecticut and other colonies wanted to establish their own government. Those who stayed loyal to the crown felt that they needed the protection of the British Empire. Men, women and children, Black, white and Native American, all contributed to and were impacted by the Revolutionary War.
